Our skilled professionals are the success of our program.
Being part of the school community is essential to our food service team in providing the best dining experience and customer service. Through understanding the taste of our diners, we enhance their daily food options and provide a comforting setting.
Building the best team for your community starts with our selective recruitment process to find the most talented professionals. Our staff is continually trained and educated with an emphasis on food, nutrition, allergen awareness, safety and sanitation.
All Managers, Chefs, and Sous Chefs are ServSafe certified by the American National Standards Institute and have successfully completed annual allergy awareness training through AllerTrain.
Chef Manager RAUL MIZQUIRI
Chef Raul has been at Birch Wathen Lenox for 17 fantastic years. Prior to Birch Wathen Lenox, he was a professional chef at the Cleaver Company and Food in Motion.
Raul's inspiration for cooking everything from scratch began while in high school working with Mary Cleaver. He possesses an insatiable curiosity to know what he is cooking and where each ingredient comes from. This curiosity shapes the way he creates meals, both at Birch Wathen Lenox and at home.
Raul's specialty is Spanish food, and he loves Thai food as well. At home, he enjoys grilling fresh meat and vegetables.
One of the reasons that Raul loves coming to BWL is seeing the positive reactions of the students and teachers when he can introduce them to new foods, all made with care from scratch.
In Raul's spare time, he enjoys fishing and going to the park with his three children. He lives with his wife and children in East Elmhurst, Queens.
